2 People in Separate Cases Stabbed to Death in NYC Bars, One Suspect in Custody – NBC New York

NEW YORK — The NYPD continues to investigate two fatal stabbings that occurred in bars during the early hours of Saturday: one in midtown Manhattan and one in Brooklyn.

The first took place in Brooklyn, outside a bar in 74th Street Y Third Avenue. According to authorities, there was a dispute of unknown origin in which a 21-year-old man was stabbed in the head and a 22-year-old man was stabbed. The stabbing victim, identified as Anthony Donofrio, later died.

New York police said Kevin Cuatlacuatl, 19, of Coney Island Avenue, was arrested Sunday and charged with Donofrio’s murder.

The second incident occurred in Manhattan, inside a bar in 46th Street Y 11th Avenue. Police said there was a dispute of some kind at the bar and a 22-year-old man was stabbed in the chest. He was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

There were no immediate arrests in this second case. The facts are still under investigation and no further details were released.

Although most felony categories are up substantially in New York City this year, murders are down 26% so far this year through January 23, according to the most recent data from the NYPD.
