After 10 cases of covid-19 recorded on Saturday in the region, there are now five more new cases in the area of ​​the Grouping of Health Centers (ACES) of the Middle Tejo, three of which were registered in Tomar, one in Ferreira do Zêzere and another in Abrantes. The vast majority of new infections are linked to the Tomar outbreak, which already has 50 sick people among the approximately 200 employees of the Ribasabores company. The Santarém district has more than a thousand sick people on a day when Portugal exceeds 50 thousand infected.

The number of people now on active surveillance is 217 in a week when the numbers of new patients have increased significantly in the region, largely due to an outbreak at a factory in Tomar. The coordinator of the Public Health Unit of ACES, Maria dos Anjos Esperança, took stock of the 15 new infections registered this weekend and called for people in isolation or in surveillance to comply with the rules and stay at home, that has not happened in some situations.


Since March 16, the day of the first infection in the region, 388 cases of infection in 225,000 inhabitants, 198 people recovered from the virus, 217 people under active surveillance, and 15 reported deaths are now registered at ACES Médio Tejo.

In the 11 counties of ACES Médio Tejo, the municipality of Ourém is the one with the highest number of positive cases (112), followed now by Tomar (81), Torres Novas (63), Abrantes (46), Entroncamento (37), Alcanena (22), Vila Nova da Barquinha (8), Mação and Ferreira do Zêzere (7), Constância (3) and Sardoal (2).

At ACES Médio Tejo, Tomar is today the county with the most people under active surveillance (80), followed by Entroncamento (38), Abrantes (27), Torres Novas (25), Ourém (23), Vila Nova da Barquinha (10), Alcanena (8), Ferreira do Zêzere (5) and Mação (1).

With the seven cases registered at ACES Pinhal Interior Sul, which includes Sertã (6 cases) and Vila de Rei (1 case), the Middle Tejo region has a total of 395 cases of covid-19, 205 people recovered and 15 deaths.

Across the Middle Tejo, there are 246 cases of infection recorded in the post-confinement period, 97 more than those reported in the initial phase of containment of the disease.

In Alto Alentejo, Ponte de Sor has two positive cases, both citizens having already recovered from the disease. The DGS report adds four more cases, but they relate to people who do not reside in the municipality and who have not updated their tax residency. Gavião still does not register cases of covid-19.

Lezíria do Tejo has an accumulated total of 645 patients, of which 229 cases in the municipality of Santarém, according to data from the Regional Network. Chamusca maintains an accumulated record of nine patients, including one death to be regretted. Golegã has four confirmed cases, according to the DGS report. The region of Lezíria registers 24 deaths, 12 of which in Santarém.

The district of Santarém thus totals 1023 cases (645 in Lezíria do Tejo and 378 in ACES Médio Tejo), and a total of 39 deaths (24 in Lezíria and 15 in ACES Médio Tejo). Lezíria do Tejo has a total of 531 recovered patients and ACES Médio Tejo has 198, which gives a total of 729 people recovered from the virus.

Covid-19 | Portugal exceeds 50 thousand infected

Portugal registers today one more death and 209 new cases of infection by covid-19 in relation to Saturday, surpassing the barrier of 50 thousand infections since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the daily bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS). According to the DGS epidemiological bulletin, Portugal now has 50,164 confirmed cases of covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic and 1,717 deaths.

Lisbon and Tagus Valley, where there have been more active outbreaks, now total 25,448 cases, 155 more infected than the day before, and one more dead (the only one registered in the country in 24 hours), bringing the total number of deaths in this region to 586 In percentage terms, in the last 24 hours, the increase in deaths was 0.05% (from 1,716 to 1,717) and that of confirmed cases was 0.4% (from 49,955 to 50,164).

In number of cases, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo leads with 25,448, followed by the North region (18,503, with 16 new cases), the Center region (4,407, plus six cases), the Algarve (853 and 15 new cases) and Alentejo (688, plus 17 cases). In the Azores and Madeira the number of infected people remained at 160 and 105, respectively.

Despite one more death in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley area, it is the North that continues to record the highest number of deaths (828), then the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region (586), then the Center (252), Alentejo (21), Algarve (15) and Azores (15). In the last 24 hours, the number of people hospitalized has decreased to 403 (minus seven) and in intensive care there are now 48 people (minus two).

Regarding information on cases per municipality, DGS recalls that it is only updated on Mondays, so the three municipalities with the most confirmed cases indicated in the bulletin remain Lisbon (4,240), Sintra (3,476) and Loures (2,197) ).

By age group, the largest number of deaths is concentrated in people over 80 years old (1,153), followed by those between 70 and 79 years old (332, plus one dead), between 60 and 69 years old (152) and between 50 and 59 years (55). There are still 20 deaths registered between 40 and 49, three between 30 and 39 and two between 20 and 29 years of age.

Globally, there are more infected in the age group between 40 and 49 years (8,294, 75 more cases than the day before), then between 30 and 39 years (8,199, an increase of 32 cases), 20 and 29 years (7,660, more 43 cases), 50 to 59 years old (7,610, plus 61), followed by people over 80 years old (5,773, 15 more than the previous day).

Health authorities have 35,157 people under surveillance – 177 more than on Saturday – and 1,429 cases await laboratory results. The number of patients reported to have recovered from covid-19 increased to 35,217 from 35,010 (plus 207).
