On January 17, 2003, an 11-year-old boy found the corpse of a newborn in Chesapeake, Virginia, United States.
It had snowed the night before, the body was frozen and wrapped in two blankets. I still had the umbilical cord.
With no clue where to follow the investigations, the police could not determine the baby’s identity. The community and local media named the body “Daniel” in the hope of attracting more information about the case that shocked many families in Chesapeake.
Without reliable information, the case remained unresolved.
However, on January 7, 2020, about 17 years after the baby was found, authorities detained Melissa Chrisman, a 43-year-old woman, on suspicion of murder, abuse and neglect.
According to WTKR-TV, the arrest was made after a discovery during the forensic analysis of the child’s body.
Authorities have linked the DNA found in baby’s clothes with Melissa’s.
Some issues are still essential for police who believe this mystery is not yet fully resolved.
We still do not know how the child went to the street. There are no witnessesSaid Chesapeake Police Detective James Thomas, stressing that he believes that anyone who left the child on the street wanted someone to welcome him.
Authorities have not yet revealed the evidence that led them to arrest Melissa Chrisman, who was 24 at the time the newborn was found.
