14 fields in the running for the new Gatineau hospital

The Outaouais Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSSO) will have to choose between 14 sites to establish its future 600-bed university hospital in Gatineau.

The Société québécoise des infrastructures (SQI) launched a research notice in mid-April to find land of approximately 150,000 square meters in the Hull or Aylmer sector to build the new building.

However, nine proposals were made within the framework of this opinion and are in addition to the five other distinct sites that the CISSSO had already identified.

The director of the project, Michel Parent, had mentioned at the time to the QMI Agency that he “did not want to miss out on an exceptional and little-known site”.

Accessibility, both via main roads and the public transport network, is also one of the priority criteria.

The City of Gatineau participated in a certain way in the exercise by identifying land and their owners and then communicating this information to the SQI.

“However, the City has not commented on the appropriateness and relevance of the sites identified,” said Josée Laurin-Jolicoeur of the communications department of the City of Gatineau.

The proposals are currently being analyzed by the Ministry of Health and Social Services, the SQI and the CISSSO. No other information could be obtained with regard to the site survey.

The costs and schedule of the work therefore remain unknown for the moment. The analysis of available land is the first step, followed by the development of a file of opportunities that will be submitted to Treasury Board within 18 months.

Remember that this new university hospital will lead to a complete reorganization of the offer of health care services in the Outaouais, resulting in a net addition of 240 beds in the region.
