(CNN Español) — As reported by Orlando Velasco Mujica, general of the National Police of the Peru So far there are 13 people who have died as a result of the intervention of the authorities in a place where about 120 people gathered and that operated in the Los Olivos district in Lima, north of the Peruvian capital.
Social gatherings are forbidden at the national level in that country because from 10 pm there is an order of absolute immobilization due to the measures adopted by the government as a result of the pandemic. In addition, social immobilization stops all activities on Sundays, so from 10 p.m. on Saturday to 4:00 a.m. on Monday, absolute immobilization also applies.
According to the authorities, the police intervened the establishment that was on the second floor. It was before the police intervention, and when the people tried to leave that they crowded on the stairs of the premises and some lost their lives.
In an official statement, the Ministry of the Interior of Peru reported that the police did not use “any type of weapon or tear gas to vacate the premises.” In addition to the deceased, there were several injured who are currently receiving care in various health centers in the city.
The police have arrested 23 people who are being investigated for these events and have initiated investigations to determine who is responsible for them.
