12-year-old boy in India dies of bird flu

Suara.com – India recently reported the first cases of human infection and death from Bird flu. It started when a 12-year-old boy became infected with the influenza virus.

He was initially admitted to AIIMS on July 2, and was declared dead on Tuesday. Amid speculation surrounding the possible third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the news has caused a lot of concern among netizens.

Bird flu is an infectious disease caused by avian influenza type A virus which is commonly found in wild birds. This is according to the Times of India.

Recent reports suggest that bird flu can also infect humans. . As the name suggests, bird flu is commonly detected in birds and can pose a great risk to poultry, such as chickens, turkeys, ducks and others.

Experts believe that although humans can catch the infection, it is extremely rare and unusual.

The tragic death of a 12-year-old boy in AIIMS is the first reported case of human infection in India. According to the head of AIIMS Randeep Guleria, samples from the patients were tested and confirmed for bird flu by the National Institute of Virology, Pune.

China recently reported its first case of human infection with the avian influenza strain H10N3 in a 41-year-old man from the country’s eastern Jiangsu province. China’s National Health Commission has confirmed that the man soon recovered from the illness.

Although bird flu is a dangerous disease, Dr. Randeep Guleria on Wednesday said “Poultry-to-human transmission of the virus is rare and continued human-to-human transmission of the H5N1 virus has not yet been established and there is no need to panic.”

“But then people who work with poultry should take precautions and maintain proper personal hygiene,” he added.
