112 news: two seriously injured after attack in Dordrecht | Arrests for 389 kilos of fireworks

21:14 – Two seriously injured after the attack in Dordrecht

A man and a woman were seriously injured in an assault on the Beinemastraat in Dordrecht. The two were attacked by a third person. The victims were taken to the hospital.

It is unclear why the man and woman were mistreated. Police have launched a major investigation and are inviting witnesses to share information with them. Police are also looking for camera footage showing what happened and where the perpetrator can be seen.

15:40 – Arrests for 389 kilos of fireworks

Two 15- and 16-year-old boys and a 37-year-old man, all from Rotterdam, were arrested after a major fireworks catch. The 389 kilos of cobras were partly found in a container which was located in the Nieuw Mathenessestraat in Schiedam. The rest of the catch was in a car parked on the Schoutstraat in Spijkenisse. Leave the police station there too!

3.30pm – Lorry swings onto A15 and hits guardrail

Police have stopped a lorry driver on the A15 near Barendrecht. The trucker was swaying a lot on the highway towards Vaanplein. He allegedly hit the guardrail with his truck at least three times.

Police closed two lanes of traffic, causing traffic jams. It’s not clear why the man was swinging like that. The driver may have fallen ill.

13:30 – Spijkenisser honored for relief action

Spijkenisser Jeroen Klink was honored by the municipality on Monday afternoon for a rescue operation he carried out earlier this year in Spijkenisse. On Feb. 7, Klink watched as a man on his scooter accidentally got into the water and didn’t get out on his own. Along with an unknown bystander, Klink quickly leapt into action to get the man out of the water.

The ceremony was held in the town hall of Nissewaard by Joost Gunning of the Drenkelingen Rescue Society. Mayor Foort van Oosten was also present. Flink received a certificate and a bronze medal for his action.

10:00 – Six homes evacuated due to gas leak

Six houses in Larikslaan in Rotterdam’s Schiebroek district were evacuated on Monday morning after a gas leak occurred. According to a spokesman for Stedin, the leak was caused when a gas pipe was hit in a crawl space while solar panels were being installed. Stedin’s employees were on site and plugged the leak. A fire brigade spokesman said it was not yet clear whether residents could go home.

9.15am – Building evacuated due to central heating boiler failure

At Dogger Bank in Hoogvliet, firefighters had to evacuate twenty people on Monday morning after they smelled gas. Among that group were several disabled people. According to a fire brigade spokesman, the smell was most likely caused by a malfunctioning central heating boiler. The problem has been solved.

Sunday 11pm – Drunk man arrested with three abandoned kittens

A drunk man was arrested Sunday evening at Rotterdam Central Station walking around with three kittens abandoned in a transport cage. Officers received a report from NS employees that the man was walking around. Not only the man but also the transport cage was covered in beer. Upon closer inspection, the kittens turned out to be neglected. Two of them had pus in their eyes. The kittens were handed over to Animal Protection. The man was allowed to sleep there at the police station.
