10-Year-Old Girl Killed in Tragic Brooklyn Car Accident

NEW YORK – A 10-year-old girl has died after being struck by a car at a busy Brooklyn intersection, police say.

The incident happened near the intersection of Wallabout Street and Wythe Avenue in the Williamsburg area around 2:42 p.m.

The girl was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where she died from her injuries.

Witnesses said the girl was walking home from school when she was hit. It is not clear if she was alone or with an adult.

The driver of a light-colored SUV was making a left turn onto Wallabout Street when he struck the girl in the roadway, according to police sources.

The tragedy happened in an ultra-orthodox Jewish community, where neighbors were mourning such a sudden loss just before the Jewish holiday.

“I know the man who came first to the scene. He saw the girl on the ground, he took off his jacket and put it on the girl to stop the bleeding,” said Mosche Green. “Then someone called EMS and it was too late.

The police said that the driver was a 62-year-old man who remained at the scene; He was questioned by law enforcement. No charges have been filed yet. Investigators were still looking into the circumstances behind the crash.
