The fourth generation of Fabia revealed its biggest secrets yesterday. We have selected a dozen attractions that the young Boleslav model receives for the first time.

Yesterday’s online premiere of the new generation of the Škoda Fabia is successfully over. In addition to the introduction of the model, we also learned the first Czech prices and were given the opportunity to compare the price list with the nearest competition. We also know when other variants of the model will arrive, including the much-anticipated bodywork of the station wagon. But in this article, we would like to highlight ten things that the new Fabia is getting for the first time. And we found one, surprisingly not.

Radiator blinds
Aerodynamics are key to saving fuel and emissions, which is not only the case today for large cars. The Fabia is also newly equipped with active radiator shutters located in the lower air intake on the front bumper. In its class, the model has the lowest coefficient of air resistance cx 0.28 and saves up to 0.2 l / 100 km at a constant speed of 120 km / h. “We succeeded in absolutely the ultimate sealing of the air inlet to the radiator, so that all the intake air passes directly into it. We have already used the solution with the Octavia, it is a rarity in the small car class, ”explains Martin Hrdlička, Head of Chassis and Engine Development.
Aerodynamic wheels
In the pursuit of the lowest possible aerodynamic drag, the novelty also receives the aerodynamic design of the wheels, which we can already know from the Scala or Octavia. They will certainly help to save some hundredth of fuel, but it will probably not be such good news for the end customer. Hand on heart, aerodynamic wheels are not as attractive in appearance as the standard design and certainly do not do as much show. Let’s just remind you that the new Fabia shoes with sizes from 14 to 18 inches.

Dual zone air conditioning
In the higher equipment levels, the Fabia offers for the first time two-zone automatic air conditioning, where the temperature can be regulated separately by the driver and front passenger. In addition, the temperature is still set with the classic rotary knobs, not by touching the screen of the multimedia system as with the Octavia.
Heated steering wheel
In addition to heated seats, the heated steering wheel also complements comfort on the road. Depending on the selected version, it is two-armed or three-armed, similar to other models of the brand. There are also silver “rollers” with additional buttons on the sides, through which you can set the display of various functions of the on-board computer.

Invisible foil
And once again heating, this time the windshield. Fabia gets a more sophisticated heating solution using invisible foil. This is more elegant than the solution using wires, moreover, it is said that this layer also serves as an acoustic insulating element.
Exhalations at the back of the tunnel
Even when driving with camouflaged prototypes, Jiří Dytrych, the head of the product line of small models, boasted of an interesting tweak to us. The Fabia has air conditioning vents for the rear passengers located at the back of the center tunnel. This is not a standard even a class higher, in the segment of small cars it is a unique.

Virtual cockpit
The lower equipment still relies on classic analog alarm clocks with an on-board counter, but in higher versions you get the so-called virtual cockpit, ie digital alarm clocks with countless different displays. It’s up to you if you want to have the classic round pointers displayed, or reduce them and place a map in the middle.
Folding passenger backrest
For selected variants, it is possible to pay extra for the folding backrest of the passenger, which will greatly facilitate the transport of really long objects. In addition, the front passenger seat is newly equipped with Isofix and TopTether child car seat mounts.

Two-piece lamps
Compared to its predecessor, the Fabia boasts more dynamic proportions. It is longer, wider, but at the same time lower, and the effort to stride is intensified by horizontally placed lamps at the rear. These are two-part for the first time and extend to the boot lid. Diode is a lighting technique from the lowest versions.
Simply clever elements
Of course, Fabia doesn’t forget the popular simply clever elements either. It is said that we would find forty-three smaller or larger helpers on the novelty. However, five of them appear in the Mladá Boleslav car for the first time:
- Removable drink holder in the middle tunnel
- Card and pencil holder in the box in front of the gear lever
- Box with a drink holder for the center tunnel of the rear seats
- Removable screen for panoramic roof
- Folding flexible box case
No alternatives
It has long been known that the Fabia will not come in a socket version, according to Škoda’s management, the great electrification of such models does not make economic sense. Only a mild hybrid was considered, but we didn’t end up with that either. On the contrary, a big surprise is the absence of CNG propulsion, which is also not expected in the future. The modern MQB A0 platform allows its installation and the sister models Scala and Kamiq run on compressed natural gas.
