International Public Service Day is celebrated on June 23. As a modern civil and economic administration within the public service, the customs occupy an important position, as its range of activities extends from pure service to sovereign action. With the increase in tasks in recent years, the work of customs has gained in importance – the work of the around 44,000 customs officers nationwide is more important than ever today. As revenue management on behalf of the federal government, customs safeguards the community, promotes Germany as a business location, contributes to the stability of the social systems and ensures security and economic justice.

At the main customs office in Frankfurt am Main with its location at Frankfurt Airport, the 1,447 customs officers – 288 of them in training – have a “gigantic task”. In 2020, around 6.20 billion euros were collected at the main customs office in Frankfurt am Main. These included, for example, around EUR 5.07 billion in import sales tax, EUR 304 million in customs, EUR 69 million in beer tax, EUR 444 million in electricity tax, EUR 157 million in energy tax and EUR 144 million in aviation tax. 	8.958 Grenzbeschlagnahmeverfahren wurden eröffnet- Die 265.086 Plagiate hatten einen Warenwert von rund 38 Millionen Euro
	753 Sicherstellungen von 72.387 artengeschützten Einzelexemplaren. Darunter waren 1.269 lebende Tiere, 4.029 lebende Pflanzen sowie 67.089 Erzeugnisse aus geschütz-ten Arten.

In order to be well positioned in the future, the Customs is again looking for around 1,000 flexible and motivated applicants (m / f / d) nationwide for the senior service and 1,650 applicants (m / f / d) for the middle service who bring commitment and teamwork skills. The main customs office in Frankfurt am Main accepts applications for an apprenticeship or dual study program until September 15, 2021 (apprenticeship / studies start August 1, 2022).
