The Government reached, on Sunday, an agreement with the Bloc and PCP so that the extraordinary increase in the lowest pensions is made in the first month after the entry into force of the State Budget for 2020.
PS sources, but also from the Government’s business partners in the State Budget for 2020 (OE2020), confirmed to the agency Lusa that this commitment around the pension policy was closed today, in São Bento, following meetings between the executive, the Left Bloc and the PCP – parties that abstained from voting on the generality of the government proposal.
According to a PCP source, the solution found for the extraordinary increase in lower pensions was the one proposed by the party in the special phase of the State Budget.
Earlier this month, as part of the specialty phase of the OE2020 debate, the PS had proposed an extraordinary increase from August for pensioners with lower pensions, but now that timetable is brought forward.
According to this PS proposal, the extraordinary update will be “10 euros for pensioners whose global pension amount is equal to or less than 1.5 times the value of the social support index and six euros for pensioners who receive, at least one pension whose fixed amount has been updated in the period between 2011 and 2015 “.
This extraordinary increase is applied by pensioners with an income of up to 658.2 euros (equivalent to 1.5 IAS in 2020). The formula found for this year, in terms of the timetable for its entry into force, repeats what was agreed under the State Budget for 2019.
Today, in a press conference, the coordinator of the Left Bloc, Catarina Martins, said that her party will keep abstention in the final global vote on the Budget, on Thursday, if the matters negotiated with the PS take place in the specialty area. and Government.
“On the completion of what was negotiated depends on the continuity of a vote of abstention from the Left Bloc, a vote that can make the Budget feasible”, declared Catarina Martins, after highlighting measures such as the increase of the lower pensions and the fight against poverty among the the elderly, through the extension of the solidarity complement for the elderly.
According to Catarina Martins, “it is on the basis of this package of measures that were negotiated even in the period before the vote in general, but also with advances verified in the last days were in matters such as education, disability and environment, that the Left Block will keep abstention in a final global vote “.
