Zumaia will host two films within the Nature Film Festival

The Department of the Environment of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has organized the First Nature and Environment Film Festival of Gipuzkoa, which began yesterday and will be held until April 23 in eight Gipuzkoan municipalities. The Basque Coast Geopark will host three screenings: two in Zumaia and one in Deba. The screenings will be free.

Gnat Zinema is part of Gipuzkoa Naturaldia, a program of events and resources aimed at all audiences to promote connection with nature in general and with nature in Gipuzkoa in particular. The initiative was presented on Monday.

The objective of this Film Festival is the dissemination of quality of the closest nature, delving deeply into the relationships that people maintain with nature and making known from different perspectives, the different ways that societies have to relate to nature. nature: nature in the culture of humanity, our footprint in nature, the union between people and animals, children and nature.

Zumaia will be one of the eight Gipuzkoan municipalities that will host Gnat Zinema as headquarters; the others are Azpeitia, Deba, Donostia, Eibar, Errenteria, Oñati and Tolosa. In these venues, ten films related to nature will be screened.

The Deputy for the Environment, José Ignacio Asensio, stated that “Gnat Zinema is a project open to anyone who believes that they have something to contribute to Nature, both from the world of defending Nature and from the world of creative outreach ». Likewise, Asensio stressed that “this Film Festival invites us to meditation, to become aware of reality, to reflect on who we are and how we relate to our environment.”

On the other hand, on Thursday 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. the films ‘Los Plásticos’ and ‘Out Of Plastic’ will be screened at the Aita Mari cinema. ‘Los Plásticos’ is the story of a small group of surfers who, starting from getting on their boards, will travel along the beaches of Alejandro Selkirk Island, in the Juan Fernández archipelago, in Chile, motivated by the same goal: the conservation of the sea. It is a short film directed by Ángel Marín and Patricio Mekis.

For its part, ‘Out Of Plastic’ is a documentary directed by Line Hadsbjerg that explores the dark depths of plastic in the Mediterranean Sea. The film is set in the Balearic Islands and offers a moment to reflect on the profound presence of plastic in our lives and in our environment.

In this case, the tickets are free and must be collected at the Zumaia Tourist Office.

On the other hand, on April 15, Thursday at 7:00 p.m., the film Dehesa by Joaquín Guitérrez Acha will be screened at the Kultur Elkartea in Deba. Admission will be free until the capacity of the room is filled.

Short Contest

In addition to the screenings at the venues of the participating towns, GNAT Zinema will also carry out a contest aimed at young people and adults from Gipuzkoa that will have two categories. In the first of these two categories, ESO students from schools in Gipuzkoa will participate. They should make a 3-5 minute short on the relationship we maintain with the closest nature. Proposals will be collected until May 7 and the short winner of the contest will be announced at the Gnat Zinema awards ceremony to be held in June. As a prize, the winning short will be screened in the second edition of the Nature and Environment Film Festival in 2022. Likewise, all participants in the contest will receive a selection of gifts from the Provincial Council’s Environment Directorate from Gipuzkoa. The jury will be made up of the Deputy for the Environment José Ignacio Asensio, and representatives of the Environment Department and the San Sebastián Film Festival.

For its part, the second category of the contest will be aimed at adults over 18 years of age. The work to be done will be the same, a short of between 3 and 5 minutes that reflects the audiovisual essence of our closest nature. The prize will be 6,000 euros, which should be allocated to the production of a 15-30 minute audiovisual on the closest nature. The audiovisual developed by the awarded person will be presented and broadcast at the Gnat Zinema 2022 Nature and Environment Film Festival.

In this case, the jury will be made up of the Deputy for the Environment José Ignacio Asensio, the mountaineer Edurne Pasaban, the coordinator of the Association of Euskadi Cinema Rooms Coro Odriozola, and representatives of the Donostia Kultura Film Unit and the Festival of Cinema of San Sebastián.
