Earlier, several large enterprises, including Coca-Cola, Verizon and Unilever, announced the suspension of Facebook ads due to insufficient control over hateful, xenophobic, anti-Semitic and other similar content.
On Friday, June 16, Facebook shares fell 8.3%, the agency said. According to the rating of billionaires Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Mark Zuckerberg’s fortune decreased by $ 7.21 billion and now amounts to $ 82.3 billion. In this regard, the entrepreneur dropped out of the top three – he was beaten by the group’s general director Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy Bernard Arnault ($ 88 billion). In the first place – the head of Amazon Jeff Bezos ($ 161 billion), in the second – one of the founders of Microsoft Bill Gates ($ 111 billion).
Initially, a campaign against Facebook called Stop Hate for Profit was launched by human rights organizations. They stated that for many years they had been trying to negotiate with Facebook about the moderation of the content, but were unsuccessful. The decision to start the campaign was made after the death of a black American, George Floyd, who died after a hard detention by the police.
