ZTE Axon 20: Here is a smartphone with a camera under the screen

It used to be easier. The phones had thick frames in which you could pack everything you needed. Button home, cameras, speakers, sensors. Maybe it wasn’t beautiful, but it definitely made a coherent whole and it was designed with sense. Then, instead of fighting for better batteries, longer life or reliability, a better price-quality ratio, manufacturers decided to remove the bezels to enlarge the screen area. The look has definitely gained on it, some smartphones look phenomenally however, this generated a new problem that the ZTE Axon 20 is trying to solve.

Where is it all stuffed?

Exactly. Since we remove the upper edge almost completely, where should the speaker, camera and other wonders be packed? Producers are doubling up and looking for different solutions. They make tears, dots, stripes and notchewhere I consider the latter to be the greatest evil that can be. Neither of these solutions is perfect. All in all, this is an understatement on my part. Each of these solutions is simply weak, so I count so much on what is to be used in the ZTE Axon 20 5G. We are talking about the front camera hidden under the screen.

ZTE Axon 20 5G – specification

It is not the first construction of this type, and it will not be the last. Axon 20 5G from ZTE has been registered with TENAA (the office in China responsible for the telecommunications market). We are dealing here with a device of considerable dimensions. OLED matrix with a diagonal of 6.92 inches and a resolution of 2460 x 1080 px. We will have 6GB, 8GB and 12GB of RAM at our disposal. Also, the amount of internal memory will be available in three variants: 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. When it comes to the heart of the smartphone, it will be Snapdragon 765G clocked at 2.4GHz, which clearly shows that we are not dealing with a flagship here.

The phone will have 4 cameras. Main 64MP, wide angle 8MP and two additional lenses 2MP each. At the front, specifically under the screen, there is a 32MP camera. Importantly, we also find a fingerprint reader under the screen.

ZTE Axon 20 5G will be armed with Android version 10 and a battery with a capacity of 4120 mAh with the option of fast charging.

It is a pity that it is not a flagship, and at the same time it is not something that would shock me somehow. In my opinion, ZTE is experimenting and is going to check how it will come out and how it will be accepted by users. And very well! May as many of these phones as possible. Notche, dots or tears disfigure the device. Sometimes, like in Oppo Reno3 Prothat I tested, it is not particularly noticeable, but it is still visible. If only the quality of the photos from the front camera remains at a sufficiently high level, I do not see the reason why all flagships should not be equipped with this type of gadget in the near future.
