Zeman: Lift your butts and go vote. Listen to the experts in the fight against covid

“Respect the opinions of experts,” Zeman told the citizens, “don’t be seduced by the opinions of amateurs who have not studied anything and practiced nothing.”

Despite government measures that limit the number of people at social events, Zeman confirmed that the traditional ceremonial gathering and awarding of state decorations at Prague Castle will take place on the occasion of October 28.

“I am willing to admit that everyone in the Vladislav Hall will have veils, as well as the cancellation of other follow-up events, ie the reception in the Spanish Hall,” Zeman said. “However, I consider canceling the national holiday due to coronavirus to be unreasonable and disrespectful to our state tradition,” he added.

Zeman also confirmed that he intends to award the state award to the current Minister of Health, Roman Prymul. Although Prymula himself allegedly urged him to do so in a year, when the second wave of the covid-19 pandemic passed. But he does not intend to comply with that.

“He is rewarded for coping with the first wave, I think he deserves it,” the president said. At the same time, Zeman stated that by awarding Prymula, he indirectly appreciates all health professionals who help in the fight against the pandemic.

Lift the damn butts and realize that if you don’t go to the polls, someone you wouldn’t vote for in your life may be elected.

In a recent interview with Reflex, Prymula said he might refuse the award if it failed to bring the second wave of the epidemic under control. In that case, he would like to talk to Zeman about it.

The highest state award, the Order of the White Lion, will be awarded by Zeman in memoriam to singer Karel Gott, as he stated last autumn. At the same time, he indirectly confirmed that the next honored will be the actor Pavel Trávníček.

In the interview, Zeman also acknowledged the fact that Prymula became the new Minister of Health on Monday.

“Although Mr. Vojtech was not a bad minister, he himself says that the minister is now the minister of coronavirus. And now you need a top, specialized expert, which Professor Prymula is undoubtedly, “said the President.

In an interview, Zeman also commented on the situation in Belarus, where mass anti-government protests have been taking place for the second month in a row. According to him, the country should recalculate the votes from the original ones before holding new presidential elections. According to official results, which, however, are not recognized by the EU or the Czechia itself, the current president, Alexander Lukashenko, won.

“I also think they ended in a very strange result, but before the re-election I would welcome the recalculation of the ballots,” Zeman said.

The head of state and the senate elections want to participate in the week. According to them, he is determined to support the “successful director of a large hospital.” This includes in his constituency in Prague 5 a long-time head of the Motol hospital and former Minister of Health for the CSSD Miloslav Ludvík, who is also supported by the government’s YES in his candidacy.

Zeman also called on citizens to participate in the election: “Raise your damn asses and realize that if you do not go to the polls, someone you would not elect in your life may be elected.”

The Czech Republic is not a travel agency

In an interview, Zeman also condemned the new proposal of the European Commission (EC) to solve the migration crisis. It envisages that member states can choose how to get involved: either accept a certain number of migrants on their territory and then decide whether to grant them asylum. Or they will logistically and financially ensure their return to their homeland.

Zeman considers the proposal “crazy”. “The idea that, as the Czech Republic, we should participate in the repatriation of migrants and still pay them for it seems to me to be meaningless, because it makes the Czech Republic a tourist office,” he said.

At the same time, he said, he would welcome the Czechia helping the countries from which migrants come to the EU. “For example, the construction of schools, hospitals, water management systems, etc. as part of development aid. The solution is not for migrants to come here, but for us to improve the conditions for them to stay at home, “the president concluded.
