Zara Closes 1,200 Outlets Around the World, What about Indonesia?

KOMPAS.com – A number of companies have been significantly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic that has occurred in recent months, including companies in the retail sector.

Zara clothing brand some time ago was also reportedly forced to close most of their retail outlets. Like the Guardian dilansi, Zara reportedly permanently closed 1,000 to 1,200 of their stores worldwide to reduce rental budgets in several malls.

What about Zara in Indonesia?

Mitra Adiperkasa (MAP) as the retail company that manages Zara in Indonesia ensures that the Spanish brand will still be present in Indonesia, both offline and online.

Meanwhile, Zara and other fashion brands under the auspices of MAP have now reopened using the strict Covid-19 protocol.

“If you say Zara’s stores are closed, Zara Indonesia has no such plan and it will even continue to grow.”

As stated by Irawati, MAP Fashion Senior Vice President, in a virtual gathering session titled “Offline Retail Winning the Low Touch Economy”, Wednesday (1/7/2020).

Ira realized that there were many changes in fashion shopping behavior in the community, starting from shopping patterns, product preferences, and others due to the impact of the pandemic.

However, on the other hand, he also admitted that digital sales would continue to grow. For this reason, MAP Fashion has a “Fashion From Home” program that allows fashion lovers to shop from home accompanied by a personal shopper who can be consulted.

In addition, all fashion brands under MAP Fashion are also available at MAP Mall and several other marketplaces.

Although online is an important platform for now and in the future, this condition does not mean that it will reduce the role of offline stores. Including Zara offline stores in Indonesia.

Consumers, said Ira, can still choose a platform that is more convenient for each individual, whether online or offline.

“The store will remain important. Pandemic has indeed changed the way people shop, shopping choices, and so on. Everything has changed, but both (online-offline) will run and will always look excellent, everything will be fine,” he said .
