Yusril Rachland and Andi Arief’s Response: Street People Talk

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The legal power of four former cadres Democratic party close to Moeldoko, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, confused to get comments about the AD/ART lawsuit from Rachland Nasidik and Andi Arief, not party law experts. According to him, the two people talk like street people.

“The one who spoke was Rachland Nashidik. What else was his name, Andi Arief, right? The talk was the talk of the street people. Nothing was said, it was his intellect, nothing at all,” Yusril said when interviewed CNN Indonesia TV, Tuesday (28/9) evening.

Yusril admitted he was confused because the party bearing the Mercy symbol had legal experts like Amir Syamsuddin, who had served as Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham).

According to Yusril, if party members have a dispute with other members or with party officials and then bring it to the realm of law, it must be respected in a state of law and democracy.

The function of the rule of law, he said, is to turn street fights and insults into academic and argumentative debates in court so that the ongoing process can take place safely and peacefully.

“So now the problem is that I haven’t seen the steps taken by the Democratic Party until today. For example, they appointed legal experts,” said Yusril.

Yusril also challenged the Democrats led by Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) to argue about the validity of the lawsuit he submitted to the Supreme Court.

“We will see later who is stronger. My opinion or their opinion,” he said.

Furthermore, Yusril said that if former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) often felt concerned, he also admitted that he was concerned about the cadres of the party bearing the Mercy symbol because they said strange things and were not argumentative.

“If Mr. SBY is like this, ‘I am concerned,’ (while practicing SBY’s hand movements). Yes, sir. I am also concerned about this cadre of the Democratic Party who talks strangely, who are not argumentative at all, “he said.

“So I’m no less concerned than Pak SBY, actually seeing the developments that have taken place in the last few days.”

Previously, the Democratic Party politician, Rachland Nashidik, questioned the reason why Yusril wanted to become the attorney for the Moeldoko camp who sued the party’s AD/ART to the Supreme Court.

Rachland brought up that Yusril had received benefits from the Democratic Party when his son, Yuri Kemal Fadlullah, ran in the East Belitung Regional Head Election and was promoted by the party bearing the Mercy symbol in 2020.

“Yusril has benefited from the Democratic AD/ART when he has an interest in his son’s political career,” said Rachland in a written statement, Tuesday (28/9).

This chaos began when four former Democrat Party cadres submitted a judicial review of the Democrat Party’s AD/ART to the Supreme Court. Yusril Ihza Mahendra became his attorney.

The Democrat cadres then began to criticize Yusril’s decision. Yusril did not remain silent and gave responses and clarifications on why he wanted to become the attorney for the cadres of the Moeldoko camp.

“It is futile to use drunken gods to deal with this issue. The Supreme Court judges will not consider the political ramblings that try to drag this issue here and there,” he said in a written statement, Friday (24/9).
