Young People Affected by Covid-19 Experience Damage to Several Organs

JawaPos.com – Signs of multiple organ damage have been reported in young people and people who show symptoms of Covid-19 within four months of their initial infection, even though they were previously in good health. Thus said a study in England on Sunday (15/11).

The Coverscan study aims to assess the long-term impact of Covid-19 on organ health in about 500 “low-risk” individuals, particularly those who are relatively young and experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, but without any major underlying health problems. The results of the study were published by The Guardian.

Preliminary data from the first 200 patients showed that four months after their initial illness, nearly 70 percent reported damage to one or more organs, including the heart, lungs, liver, and pancreas.

“The good news is, the damage is relatively minor. But, even from a conservative point of view, there is some damage, and in 25 percent of people this affects two or more organs, ” said Amitava Banerjee, a cardiologist and associate professor of clinical data science at University College London, as quoted by the paper as saying reported from Among. “This is of interest, because we need to find out whether (the damage) is continuing or improving, or whether there is a subgroup of people whose condition could worsen,” Banerjee added.

An additional 24,962 people in the UK have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the country’s total Covid-19 cases to 1,369,318, according to official figures released on Sunday. Meanwhile, Covid-19-related deaths in the UK rose by 168 to 51,934, the data showed.

Britain is the first country in Europe to register more than 50,000 deaths from Covid-19. Britain is also the fifth country in the world to reach this bleak milestone, after the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico.

The UK is currently implementing a regional quarantine (lockdown) nationwide for a month to December 2. This is the second time since the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, in an effort to curb the re-emergence of the virus.

In order to return to normal life, a number of countries such as Britain, China, Germany, Russia and the United States are racing against time to develop a Covid-19 vaccine.
