A young Cuban nurse was recently murdered by her husband, a doctor in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
According to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the victim was identified as Samantha Heredia, while the aggressor responds to the name of Pedro Carmenaty.
Heredia, 22 years old, graduated from the School of Nursing and Health Technology in Santiago de Cuba in 2022, and worked at the ‘Josué País García de Micro III’ Polyclinic.
The young woman lived with Carmenaty in the Abel Santamaría Reparto, better known as “El Sala’o”, and was allegedly killed last Saturday, March 2.
“The young woman was brutally beaten and then shot,” said a source close to the independent journalist.
The complaint states that the doctor accused of this crime works at the ‘Juan Bruno Zayas’ Clinical Surgical Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, and that he would have surrendered to the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) after having committed this crime.
“According to statements from a Surgical Clinic worker, the young woman was brutally beaten and then beaten. ‘He works here and Samantha stopped by the clinic a while ago in Orthopedic Room 3C.’ ‘He already turned himself in, and if he did it, it is because they are guilty,’ the worker stated.
The nurse’s body was laid to rest at the Santiago de Cuba Funeral Home, while her burial took place on the afternoon of Sunday, March 3.
The death of the young woman generated commotion among the Santiago community, with several of her acquaintances going online to denounce what happened and dedicate a few farewell words to the nurse.
“My girl, I am in shock with this sad news, I don’t know whether to stand or sit, I still don’t believe it, you have left us tremendous pain, I still remind you how happy you were, as you said my black girl, sometimes I don’t understand life, “It takes away the best people next to us,” reads one of these comments, compiled by the communicator.
At the moment, the island’s independent feminist platforms have not commented on the nurse’s case, but if it is confirmed as a femicide, it would be the 10th registered in Cuba since 2024 began.
