Yeltsin showed a document in which Ukraine was included in the system of strategic interests of the Russian Federation – Kravchuk

“A game is going on, a political game around one important moment in Russian politics. I want to formulate one very important position that I discussed with Boris Yeltsin. He asked me to listen to one document that he will submit for approval to the Federal Assembly of Russia. This document was called “Fundamentals of Russia’s foreign policy.” One of the first points included the following: Ukraine was, is and will be in the system of Russia’s strategic interests, “said the first president of Ukraine.

According to him, he was surprised then.

“I say that the Belovezhskaya Agreements stipulate that we are equal states, that each will be independent, sovereign. He says:” It is written this way, but our history is very difficult, there were pluses and minuses, but more was that we were where – something uniform for a long time “, – explained Kravchuk.

He believes that there will be no success in relations with Russia until “Russia’s foreign policy is changed and, conceptually, Russia refuses to resolve any issues only by force, and not in compliance with the norms of international law.”
