Xiaomi dropped Apple from the podium

According to the latest data from Gartner, the Chinese company Xiaomi achieved quite a success and defeated Apple. Her smartphones turned out to be more popular than iPhones.

Xiaomi’s fans fell a bit over the weekend because a company representative called them “losers”which was reprehensible, and it does not matter that some sometimes call themselves that. However, it cannot be denied that the company’s strategy is to offer products with an excellent price-quality ratio brings tangible results.

According to the latest data from the analytical company Gartner, in the third quarter of 2020, the Chinese manufacturer has beaten its American competitor, which has been a strong “inspiration” for Xiaomi for years. The increase relates to both the market share and the sales volume on a year-on-year basis.

In the last analyzed period, the manufacturer of phones from such series as Mi and Redmi is responsible for 12.1 percent. market, which translates into 44.4 million devices sold. A year ago, Xiaomi could boast a market share of only 8.5 percent. and sales of 32.9 million units.

In the case of Apple, market shares rose, but sales fell.

Apple provided 11.1 percent in the analyzed period. of all smartphones sold globally, while a year ago it was responsible for 10.5 percent. market. Despite this, the company sold the devices de factoa bit less, only 40.6 million units, compared to 40.8 million a year ago.

This paradox of gaining and losing is also related to the fact that the entire market has become smaller due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and a total of 366.7 million devices were sold, while a year ago in the same period, 388.8 million smartphones were sold to buyers.

It’s worth remembering, however, that Apple has an ace up its sleeve.

This year, Apple delayed the launch of its iPhone line devices by a month compared to previous years, and in addition, half of the new devices went on sale only in November. For this reason, it is worth following the next financial results, because they will give us an answer to the question of whether Xiaomi’s advantage will persist.

For today, however, Oppo is still in a similar situation to Apple, which sold slightly less phones than a year earlier (29.9 million compared to 30.6 million), but still increased its market share (from 7.9 % to 8.2%). Despite this, this company is still far from Xiaomi and Apple.

The first two places on the podium are invariably occupied by Samsung and Huawei.

The rollover took place in third place, and Samsung remains the leader of the ranking. The giant not only defended the first place, but also increased the advantage. The Korean company sold 80.8 million smartphones, although a year ago sales amounted to 79.1 million. The shares thus increased from 20.3 percent. up to 22 percent

It is a bit worse in the case of Huaweia, whose market position has been damaged by Donald Trump’s trade embargo. The company is still in second place with 51.8 million and 14.1 percent, but its advantage over Xiaomi and Apple is weakening. A year ago, these values were respectively 65.8 million and 16.9 percent.
