Würzburg: Numerous parties on the Main – residents …

The good weather lured many people outside on the weekend – that’s why numerous parties took place along the Main in Würzburg during the night from Saturday to Sunday. On the Mainkai in particular, several people celebrated with loud music – to the displeasure of the residents.

Local residents complain about a lack of police presence

Several residents say that they alerted the police early on and repeatedly about disturbing the peace. The officers only intervened in the early hours of the morning: Before that, however, police officers had already driven along the Mainkai in patrol cars – without stopping and breaking up the parties. The residents complain about the lack of police presence.

Police respond to allegations

Meanwhile, the police have responded to complaints from local residents. In a statement to our editorial team, it is said that the officials regularly check the affected areas on the Main. The police, in constant, close coordination with the city of Würzburg, always carry out offensive controls with a communicative approach and – if necessary – show a strong presence. At the same time, the police have great understanding of people’s need to meet outdoors, have fun and spend their free time together. But especially in the evening hours on the weekend, this would lead to massive disorder: In the night from Saturday to Sunday, a few hundred people would have celebrated along the Main – at around 9:15 pm the officials had to break a celebration in the “Alter Kranen” area. The officials then walked across the entire area on the Main to point out the corona measures and to check people who made noise with jukeboxes. At around 11:15 p.m., the officials at Theodor-Heuss-Damm intervened. About two hours later, the police had to break up a party on Felix-Freudenberger-Platz. The same thing happened at four in the morning on the Mainkai.

Police announce talks

The police announced that there would be renewed discussions in the coming week on how a possible balance could be found between the interests of as many as possible (residents, walkers, celebrants).
