From April to June, the National Council analyzed 27 national TV channels for a week and came to the conclusion that mLeast of all, the Ukrainian language is heard on the air of the TV channels “1 + 1” and “NTN” – 79%, “Ukraine” – 78%, “Inter” and “K1” – 77%.
11 TV channels broadcast only in Ukrainian: “UA: Pershy”, “UA Culture”, “Rada”, “UFO”, “Indigo”, M1, XSport, “Pryamiy”, “Plusplus”, “Pixel TV”, Zoom.

For verification, broadcasting was analyzed from 7.00 to 18.00 and from 18.00 to 22.00. These periods of time include, in particular, the prime-time hours, when the largest number of viewers watch television.
“All news programs and advertisements on all TV channels sound 100% in Ukrainian,” said Olena Nitsko, a member of the National Council.
The National Council said that all 27 TV channels fulfilled the language quotas.
The law on language quotas on television entered into force on October 13, 2017. According to the document, in the total weekly volume of broadcasting, programs, films and news in the state language must be at least 75% at each of the time intervals between 7.00 and 18.00, as well as between 18.00 and 22.00. Local and regional TV and radio companies must broadcast at least 50% of the airtime in Ukrainian. For non-compliance with the requirements, the TV and radio company pays a fine of 5% of the total amount of the license fee.
However, in accordance with the law on ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language, from July 16, 2024 quotas will be changed: The share of the Ukrainian language on the air of national channels should grow to 90%, local – up to 80%.
