Ahmed Marcouch, mayor of Arnhem, says: “Deeply upset about the death of Naima El Bezaz and deeply saddened by the lack of such a witty and original woman and author, I sympathize with the beautiful family she is leaving.”

El Bezaz was of Moroccan-Dutch descent. She debuted the novel at the age of 21 The road to the north.
