“It’s a tank shell about 25 centimeters in size,” reports a fire department spokesman from Düsseldorf when asked by 24RHEIN. The ordnance clearance service has been informed and will examine the explosive device within the next half hour and then defuse and dispose of it, the fire brigade spokesman continued.

The grenade was discovered on a large construction site on the airport road. “The area is at an old gas station, right on the airport site,” says the spokesman for the fire brigade. The area was cordoned off, but it didn’t have much of an impact. No major disruptions to traffic are expected.
