World Tuberculosis Day, What’s Its History?

However, Robert Koch argued that the disease was caused by external factors that were not related at all to hereditary genetics, but were caused by elements of bacteria or germs. So, in 1882, he announced the results of his findings, and named the disease Tuberculosis due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

For his findings, Koch won the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1905. Then, every March 24 is designated as World Tuberculosis Day to remember his findings which provided major innovations in the scientific field.

Until now, the commemoration of World TB Day is needed to raise awareness of all levels of society about the need to recognize the symptoms and impacts of TB worldwide.

In addition, it is also necessary to have knowledge about the prevention and treatment of TB so that the potential for transmission does not occur in the community.

One of the movements to care for TB, namely Find and Treat TB (TOSS TBC) which aims to stop the transmission of TB in the community. TB was once included in the category of a pandemic because it could be transmitted to other people.
