World Health Organization declares world emergency due to coronavirus outbreak



Geneva – The World Health Organization (WHO) declared today the international emergency before the rapid increase of patients affected by the coronavirus Wuhan, already more than 8,000 in about twenty countries, although 99% of cases have been diagnosed within China.

An emergency committee of 15 experts, convened by the Director General of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, declared this alert, after having ruled it out a week ago, before the appearance of several infections among humans in countries such as Germany, Japan, the US or Vietnam , in patients who had not recently traveled to China.

It is the sixth time that WHO declares this type of global emergency, after which it activated before the outbreak of H1N1 flu (2009), those of Ebola in West Africa (2014) and in the Democratic Republic of Congo (2019), polio in 2014 and Zika virus in 2016.
