Worker in Critical Condition After Being Crushed on Grand Paris Express Site: Judicial Inquiry Opened

A 46-year-old worker is currently in critical condition after being crushed by a telescopic tank on a Grand Paris Express site in Aulnay-sous-Bois (93). A judicial inquiry has been opened to determine the circumstances of this tragedy.

The accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. on Monday July 3, when the worker was carrying out work on the construction site of line 16. According to information provided by a police source, he was violently rammed and crushed by a telescopic tank.

The vital prognosis involved

The injuries suffered by the worker are serious, with a fractured pelvis, femur and a swollen abdomen. He was quickly evacuated by helicopter to a Paris hospital.

The Bobigny prosecutor’s office indicated that the condition of the 46-year-old worker was still critical on Tuesday July 4, and that his vital prognosis was now engaged. An investigation was opened by the judicial authorities, and the labor inspectorate was seized to understand the circumstances of the accident.

The Société du Grand Paris has declared that it is in contact with the works company and is closely monitoring the evolution of the worker’s state of health.. It was specified that the latter was working on the site on behalf of the Webbild/NGE consortium.

Since the start of work in 2015, many serious accidents, including five fatalities, have been deplored on the sites of the Grand Paris Express, which provides for the construction of 200 kilometers of new automatic metro lines. Among them, there is that of April 6 when a 21-year-old Malian apprentice was crushed by a concrete block in Val-d’Oise, on the site of the future line 17.

On June 29, a subsidiary of the Vinci group has also been fined 250,000 euros following an accident that resulted in the death of a worker on a Grand Paris Express site in Val-de-Marne.
