Wong drives Brewers to win over Nationals

Kolten Wong homered and produced three runs to guide the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-3 victory over the Washington Nationals on Sunday.

Lorenzo Cain also homered and Milwaukee took the weekend’s three-game series. The leaders of the National League Central won 10 of the most recent 13 games.

Hunter Strickland (2-1) got two outs for the win, and Josh Hader recorded the last to reach 26 saves. Wong bounced Sean Nolin’s second pitch out of the park to the bottom of right field for 10 home runs for the year. It was the fifth home run to start a game of the season and the seventh of his career.

Wong had another deep swing in the fourth inning. After Nolin (0-2), the losing pitcher, gave away two walks with two outs, Wong hit a two-run RBI triple that broke the tie.

Nolin finished with three accepted runs with six hits in four innings of labor.

For the Nationals, Venezuelans Alcides Escobar 5-1, Adrián Sánchez 1-0 and Gerardo Parra 1-0; the Dominican Juan Soto 4-0 and the Cuban Yadiel Hernández 4-1.

For the Brewers, Venezuelans Manny Pina 1-1 with two runs, Eduardo Escobar 3-0 and Avisail García 3-1; the Mexican Luis Urías 3-1 with a run scored, and the Dominican Willy Adames 4-1.
