“Both the State and Federal governments are facing a serious backlog in terms of care for women with breast cancer and very little is being done in terms of prevention,” said Héctor Nuñez and Dan Andrade of the Future collective Makers.
“We are aware that many health care issues were stopped by the contingency of covid 19, however this is not a reason to stop caring for those women who unfortunately have some kind of cancer and in this case the breast that year after year it takes the lives of hundreds of women “, added the leaders of the collective.
“We started with Future Makers as a way to make visible all those women who have this condition and as a way to tell the health authorities: Hey, you have a serious problem here and you have to take care of it,” said the young people interviewed.
“According to data from INEGI and health authorities, in Ciudad Juárez there are more than 200,000 women over 40 years of age and of those 200,000, 6 percent, 12,000, are susceptible to contracting the disease, so the health authorities Both State and Federal have a great challenge in terms of prevention and preventing women from suffering from this condition ” reiterated Núñez and Andrade.
“We recently had an interview with the state health secretary, Felipe Sandoval Magallanes, to whom we proposed the confirmation of a Citizen Observatory in order to locate and visualize all this problem in its proper dimension and support women who for one or another reason they cannot access treatment or medication. Future Makers is already working to address this situation for the benefit of all the women on our border”, concluded the interviewees.
