Woman shot dead in Anderlecht, traces lead to Braine-l’Alleud

Gun violence

On Wednesday evening, Christiane T. (61) was shot dead in Anderlecht. A man from Braine-l’Alleud was arrested and interrogated on Thursday.

No one thought Christiane (61) had been shot. Not the emergency services who tried to resuscitate her, and not the police who were called to assist an “unconscious woman in her car”. She was wounded in the face, but gunshot wounds? Only in the hospital, with the help of a scan, could her injuries be identified. It would be shot from a firearm. On Thursday morning, a local resident noticed an abandoned bag of ammunition not far from the crime scene. A ballistics expert arrived on the scene.

In recent weeks, Brussels seemed to be the scene of settlements between drug gangs, and they did not shy away from using heavy weapons. In February, no fewer than eight shootings made the news in eight days. So at the mention of yet another shooting, most thoughts immediately turned to drug violence. But the story of Christiane from Braine-l’Alleud turns out to be different.

Friend of sons

On Thursday afternoon, the police went to the woman’s house in Braine-l’Alleud for a search. A suspect was also found there and taken in for questioning. According to Het Nieuwsblad and Sudinfo, it concerns a friend of one of her three sons, who has reportedly moved in with the woman for a few months. He is said to have sat in the car with Christiane in Anderlecht, and then quietly walked away. Thanks to camera images further along, the man could be identified.

Why the two were together in Anderlecht, and what caused the violence, is currently still subject to speculation. The public prosecutor’s office remains tight-lipped and says it will not communicate further so as not to jeopardize the course of the investigation. After questioning the suspect, it will have to be determined whether or not he will appear before the investigating judge.
