With round of 69, Russell Henley leads at Wyndham | sports

GREENSBORO, NC, USA (AP) – Russell Henley took a three-shot lead at the Wyndham Championship spot of honor, and is one round away from his first PGA Tour win in four years. .

Henley finished Saturday with 69 shots, one below par. He had tied for the lowest score this year after 36 holes, but couldn’t keep up at Sedgefield Country Club.

Still, he hit a 33-foot putt for an eagle on the par-5 15th hole and is at 15 under par, with a cumulative 195 strokes as he tries to win his fourth title and his first since the 2017 Shell Houston Open.

“I’m really grateful to have had a round below par today,” he said.

Tyler McCumber, son of 10-time Tour champion Mark McCumber, finished with 66 hits and 12 under par. He has no PGA victories.

A group of six golfers four shots from the lead, at 11 under par, includes three players who have not secured the playoffs: Rory Sabbatini, Scott Piercy and Roger Sloan. They are on track to be part of the group of 125 who will be in the postseason next week at The Northern Trust.

Sabbatini, the Olympic silver medalist, is keeping up the good pace he started in Tokyo to move closer to qualifying for the playoffs. His 69 shots included a birdie at 17, taking him from being out of the playoffs to a possible 122nd spot.

He started the week at number 141.

Piercy also continues his way to the playoff with a round of 68. He was ranked No. 1 of the potential knockouts, 126, but made his third consecutive round in the 60 to rank 93rd.

Former FedEx Cup champion Justin Rose, who started the week 138th in the standings, posted a round of 69 with a bogey on the final hole. It could finish 126th.

It will not be a normal final round as it will start earlier. The first golfers will leave at 7 in the morning to anticipate the possible rain. They will start in groups of three and from hole 1 and 10.
