With Boeing 747: non-stop from Hawaii to Germany

Without a stopover from Honolulu to Frankfurt? A Boeing 747 from Wamos Air completed this flight. There were stranded cruise guests on board.

The big return campaign has been running for a week. Around 100,000 Germans have to cancel their vacation because flight connections have been cut and borders have been closed in the fight against the corona virus. From Egypt to Chile and Mexico to Peru – the German government flies travelers home from all over the world with chartered planes.

In addition, many tour operators brought back stranded customers themselves. These have sometimes experienced true dramas before. For example, the cruise ship Norwegian Jewel, with around 2000 guests and 1000 crew members, was refused to moor on a South Sea cruise, first in Fiji and then in New Zealand. The states referred to restrictions to combat Covid-19.

First get off in Hawaii

The luxury ship therefore went to Hawaii after a fuel stop in American Samoa. After some back and forth and a long wait, the around 3,000 people were finally able to get on board to start their journey home. There were also a few Germans among them.

The result is a record flight to Germany. A Wamos Air Boeing 747 landed in Frankfurt shortly before noon on Wednesday (March 25). The Spanish airline’s jumbo jet non-stop covered the most direct route from Honolulu to the German banking metropolis.

Several record flights

The trip took a little under 15 hours. The Boeing 747 with the license plate EC-MQK crossed the north central Pacific, then the USA, Newfoundland, Ireland, Great Britain, Belgium until it landed on runway 07 at 11:27 a.m.

The Corona crisis has led to extraordinary flights several times. A Boeing 787-9 from Air Tahiti Nui recently completed the 15,715 km route from Papeete in the South Pacific to Paris non-stop. Qantas is currently flying a few nonstop Airbus A380s from Darwin in northern Australia to London because Singapore no longer allows transit.
