With arbitration controversy, América comes back to Puebla and is the leader of Liga Mx

As in other high-tension matches, América left the Cuauhtémoc stadium with a victory that was not exempt from referee controversies. They came back 2-1 against Puebla and, of all the images that circulated throughout the night, the most controversial pointed to the whistler Guillermo Pacheco, who considered midfielder Salvador Reyes’ first goal valid, in a play preceded by a handball from Dutch Javairo Dilrosun.

Reyes crossed with his left foot to goalkeeper Jesús Rodríguez after a rebound in which Dilrosun fell to the grass and deflected the ball towards him with the fist of his right hand (21). The Puebla players angrily complained to referee Pacheco, but nothing made him change his decision.

Minutes before that action that meant the tie, the Brazilian full-back Gustavo Ferrareis put the Strip ahead with a half turn(9).

Coach André Jardine used most of his starting elements, with the exception of goalkeeper Luis Malagón, Jonathan dos Santos, Diego Valdés and captain Henry Martín, who were reserved for the second leg semifinal in the Concacaf Champions League against Pachuca (1-1 overall).

But given the circumstances, and faced with the constant siege of their rival, the Eagles turned to Henry and Valdés to avoid putting their leadership at risk. Reyes’ second goal settled the matter before going to halftime (45+3).

While waiting for the result of the Toluca-Cruz Azul duel, in which a victory for the Diablos could take away their throne, those from Coapa reached 35 points at the top of the Liga Mx and will be able to focus fully on the Concachampions, having a week off for the play-in.
