The team of about 80 people works in the city of Besni

The Turks sent the Bulgarian firefighters away with applause and horns. This was told to journalists by the head of the team, Kaloyan Donchev. On Thursday, the mission in the Republic of Turkey of the search and rescue module of the Directorate General “Fire Safety and Protection of the Population” ended.

“The Turks welcomed us and sent us off like heroes. On the way back on the highway, we were overtaken by drivers who were honking their horns and clapping their hands,” said Donchev.

The team of about 80 people mainly worked in the city of Besni.

“It was a huge disaster. We will hardly forget what we saw. Together with the Polish team, we found a woman under the rubble. The rescue operation lasted 22 hours,” Donchev said.

“I was involved in a field operation under the ruins. We had to amputate the victim’s upper limb with a colleague from Poland,” commented Dr. Yolov from the Medical Institute of the Ministry of the Interior.

“The whole organization was perfect. Thanks to the team for the quick response in different situations. There were no incidents. They have shown that they can work with the rest of the European modules. They are real professionals”, added the head of the State Security Service – Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alexander Zhartov.

“In a situation like this, you do your best. You leave feelings and emotions aside”, explained Petar Petrov, deputy head of the module in Turkey.
