With a wide smile, Turco Mohamed comments on the work spirit at Atlético-MG: “Always enjoy” | well friends!

Whether answering questions from journalists, joking about “Portuñol”, reviewing his goals when he was a player, or citing the challenges in Atlético-MG, Antonio Mohamed occupied the screen of Bem, Amigos! this Monday with a big smile. Lots to celebrate for the Rooster.

But there is a light spirit in the Argentine hired to succeed Cuca and get his hands on the team that won the Brazilian Championship and Brazil’s Cup in 2021. The challenge was set from the beginning: to continue the track of titles. With a cap and sunglasses on the edge of the field, the coach spoke about how he experiences football.

– I always see the positive side of life. I’ve been through difficult situations in life, and I’m in this place to enjoy, to learn, and to keep growing. Above all, enjoying everyday life always, I don’t care about criticism, I respect them, but I’m not delighted with the compliments when we win either. I enjoy everyday.

“What happened, stays behind. I look forward, always with a smile”

Not everything is rosy in the team that has already won the Supercopa do Brasil and the State Championship for the third time in a row, under the command of Antonio Mohamed. With a vast cast, there is the work of making changes that do not impact performance, rotating the players and even “managing” seven foreigners for five spots.

– Here (Atletico) is a fully furnished house. And do you have to put the TV in the bathroom? The barbecue by the pool? There’s no reason to do that, because the team is already playing well. I can make small changes for the team to improve, and also some changes because other teams already know Atlético well. Perhaps some tactical difference, but very small, to create variants,” he said.

“It is not normal for a coach to arrive at a champion team. It is not normal. I arrive to accompany the team, so that it continues to improve, maintain the intensity and hunger to triumph, to win”. (Turkish Mohamed)

– It’s a winning team. We all know football here and we know that Atlético is a winning team, that has a great transition, defends well, and has great individuality. And it’s a team that doesn’t hurt to score. He can play badly, but he’s close to scoring. A complete team, closed group, a lot of humility. It’s the best I’ve found here,” he added.

At the age of 52, Antonio Mohamed has his first experience in Brazilian football. He made a career as a coach in Argentina (Colón, Huracán, Independiente) and Mexico (América, Monterrey), as well as a spell at Celta de Vigo in Spain. He is the successor of Cuca, against whom he was eliminated in 2013 by Atlético himself, who would be champion, when El Turco coached Tijuana.
