Fraudsters use various methods to hijack our sensitive data. The method that involves arousing interest and encouraging users to click on links that allegedly contain sensational recordings of kidnapping, rape or death after vaccination against COVID-19 is very popular. As CERT Polska warns, this is nothing more than an attempt to take over access to your Facebook account.
In this variant extorting sensitive data criminals appeal to basic human emotions as well as curiosity. They encourage you to click on links that lead to sites allegedly containing sensational videos that show scenes of rape, beating or kidnapping a child.
Fraudsters try to take over our data
As CERT Polska explains, by clicking on such a link, you may lose access to your Facebook account. It is worth remembering, because recently the team monitoring security incidents on the Internet has noticed a significant increase in the activity of criminals using the described method.
In this case, the pattern is usually the same or very similar. CERT Polska informs: “after clicking on the link, the victim is displayed a false request to provide Facebook login details, e.g. for the purpose of alleged age verification”. If we provide our data, we may lose access to the account, and criminals will most likely start using it to further spread fake entries and links or to extort money (e.g. by asking our friends to quickly transfer small amounts via BLIK).
