Windows 11 24H2 Update: New System Requirements and Tighter Rules Revealed

Even though it clearly defined the requirements for installing Windows 11, Microsoft ended up being permissive at this point. It is simple to get around these limits and have the system working completely. This may soon change, when the Windows 11 24H2 update is released and brings new, much tighter rules.

End of Windows 11 on old PCs?

After many complaints and much discomfort with the technical impositions of Windows 11, Microsoft never made these points very clear. These requirements remain mandatory, but the company has always allowed this system to work even in supposedly unsupported situations.

Still, and so that many can have Windows 11 without any problems, solutions quickly emerged that brought an installation that actively cheated the system. These promised permanent updates without any control from Microsoft. Examples are Rufus or Tiny11, which help users.

This ease and simplicity in getting around barriers may soon be a thing of the past. From what has been revealed, the next major Windows 11 update, marked with the number 24H2 and expected soon, may bring new requirements and new validations, which will prevent Windows 11 from working correctly on older PCs.

24H2 update could change the rules

Machines whose processor does not support the “POPCNT” instruction will not be able to boot the operating system. For this POPCNT instruction to be supported, the machine must have an SSE4.2 or SSE4a compatible processor. Fortunately, this new restriction will only apply to very old PCs, as these instructions were introduced fifteen years ago.

Unlike what happened before, there is no way around this new requirement. The solution appears to be a return to Windows 10 on older PCs without support for the new requirements. Fortunately for everyone, this system can still be used safely for a few more months, with Microsoft planning to support this version until 2025.

With the new Windows 11 update on the way, this will be a problem that will soon arise for many who use the Microsoft system. The 24H2 update will be a big change and this is just one of the many new features that Microsoft will add to your system.
