Williams Racing Faces Spare Part Shortage after Japanese Grand Prix Crash

Williams Racing performance boss Dave Robson has admitted that the Japanese Grand Prix crash has left the team short on spare parts for the final six grands prix of the season. Over the weekend at Suzuka Circuit, Logan Sargent crashed during qualifying. In the final race, Alexander Albon’s car went flying in the air on the first lap, and Sargent suffered damage from contact with Valtteri Bottas, causing both cars to retire.

“We are currently using parts that have already been manufactured,” Robson told Auto Motor und Sport. “Therefore, we may have to use older specifications for some parts.” Team principal James Boules acknowledged that the lack of spare parts was also part of the team’s responsibility. “Our production facilities are at the same level as they were 20 years ago,” said Bowles. “Currently, we only have two autoclaves in operation for carbon fiber parts.” “To update our parts inventory to the latest specifications, we have to outsource, which takes longer and costs three times as much.” “I want that, but it would be better to put the money into a car for 2024 and 2025.”
