Fire in a home in Evere: a resident died – BX1

The Brussels firefighters intervened this Wednesday evening for a fire in a home in Evere.

It was in a home in Evere, located in rue Jean-Baptiste Desmeth, that a fire broke out on Wednesday evening. The emergency services were alerted around 8:30 p.m.

The fire broke out in a bedroom on the second floor of the building. The release of smoke justified the evacuation of the third and fourth floors of the building.

This Thursday morning, we learn that a resident of the nursing home died in this fire. The exact circumstances of his death are not yet known.

Residents evacuated

Some residents were evacuated from the home: the only ones who had breathed in smoke or who were distressed, said firefighter spokesman Walter Derieuw, who added that “the other residents were able to stay in their rooms, windows open“. Once the intervention was completed, all residents were able to return to their rooms, although two rooms may no longer be habitable.

17 people were affected by the smoke, and 15 of them were able to be treated on the spot thanks to the advanced medical post. Two other people were taken to hospital: “This is a member of staff and an inspector of the Brussels North local police“, says the spokesperson. “We would like to thank them for their actions and wish them a speedy recovery.“, a conclu Walter Derieuw.
