Willem Engel and other virus activists arrested in The Hague | Inland

Dozens of people had gathered again on Saturday evening in front of the Lower House in protest against the emergency law. The mobile unit was standing by with several units. The Square had to be swept clean twice. The activists then went elsewhere. At one point, the last remaining protesters were shut in by the police. Images of the arrest of Willem Engel were partly shown on social media. He called on his viewers to “press charges against the police, the police chief and the mayor.” Many others also filmed the protest and the police.

The roughly 100 protesters were approached by officers and asked to leave the area. According to a police spokeswoman, the demonstration has not been announced, she confirms to De Telegraaf. That is why action was taken quite quickly.

Images show that action leader Willem Engel and others faced several agents. “More and more protesters started to interfere in the conversation,” reports a photographer present. The police swept the square and the protesters dispersed in different directions. Later, they returned, the group was shut in and the police made arrests.

Earlier this week, activist Engel called on Saturday and the coming days to come to the Plein to protest against the so-called corona speed law, which should provide a legal basis for the corona measures in the Netherlands. Several such demonstrations were disbanded last week. On Thursday, eighty people were arrested.
