Will Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences after slapping comedian Chris Rock during the Oscars. About it writes CNN.

The actor wrote about this on social networks, saying that he was ready to accept any additional consequences of his actions, which he called “shocking, painful and inexcusable.”

“The list of people I have offended is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, everyone in attendance and spectators around the world. I have betrayed the trust of the Academy. I have denied other nominees and winners the opportunity to celebrate and be recognized for their outstanding “I am heartbroken. I want to return the spotlight to those who deserve it for their accomplishments and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work they are doing to support creativity,” wrote Will Smith.

Will Smith will no longer be able to vote for Oscar-nominated films every year. But at the same time, if he acts in films, then his roles will be eligible for a nomination.

Academy President David Rubin has already said that the Academy has accepted Smith’s resignation and will continue disciplinary proceedings against the actor.

“We will continue our disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violating the Academy’s standards of conduct ahead of our next scheduled board meeting on April 18,” Rubin said.

Recall that the conflict between Chris Rock and Will Smith occurred during the 94th Academy Awards, just before the announcement of the nominees in the category “Best Documentary”. Rock joked about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia.
