Thuisbezorgd has around 2000 employees. “All our delivery staff will no longer be on the road all night,” says a delivery service spokesperson.
Own choice
Restaurants that are affiliated with Thuisbezorgd, but work with their own delivery staff, decide for themselves whether they will send their delivery staff to the streets in the event of a severe storm.
“5 percent of the delivery staff are employed by Thuisbezorgd, the rest are restaurants that work with their own delivery staff. They decide what they do, we cannot decide that for them.”
Deliveroo: stopped in many cities
Delivery service Deliveroo also keeps a close eye on developments and finds it in many places no longer justified that its own delivery people take to the road, says a spokesperson.
“Most of the restaurants that are available for Deliveroo work with the delivery service from Deliveroo. We have more than 2500 delivery people who deliver almost all by bike. At half past five we decided to stop in Leiden, The Hague, Rotterdam and Haarlem.”
The delivery service also stopped in Amsterdam at 6.30 p.m. “We call the delivery staff every hour and keep a close eye on the situation.”
The delivery services clearly communicate that through their site. Customer services are also continuously available.

No accidents yet
Both Thuisbezorgd and Deliveroo have not yet received reports of accidents involving meal deliverers. “We also take this decision to prevent accidents. Sunday evening is a busy evening, but the safety of people is paramount,” says the spokesperson of Thuisbezorgd.
Deliveroo endorses that. “We already informed all deliverers yesterday about the storm and called on us to keep a close eye on safety. Safety is paramount.”
