“Pop-up events” in all 23 districts from July 1st; two-day finale on the Danube Island
Vienna (OTS / RK) – Due to the motto “All of Vienna”, the Danube Island Festival 2020 will not take place as a major event on three days on the Danube Island, but as a summer tour of 100 different acts from July 1st to September 18th, 2020 throughout Vienna. Finally, a finale will take place on the island on September 19 and 20, but – according to federal guidelines – with only 1,250 visitors each. Municipal councilor Barbara Novak, state secretary of the SPÖ Vienna, as well as event organizers Thomas Waldner and Kurt Wimmer, president of the Wiener Kulturservice association, presented the details of the event in a press conference in the Gasometer today, Wednesday.
“We come to the visitors with the Danube Island Festival at home or at their place of work. The largest open-air festival thus becomes the longest open-air festival in Europe,” Novak advertised. “The festival is far too important for fans, many Austrian artists and Viennese companies involved to simply not hold it for a year. The Donauinselfest family sees itself as a partner of the Viennese art, culture and events industry, which is currently suffering enormously from the crisis, ”Novak explained the reasons for the alternative concept.
For 80 days, a double-decker bus with an open stage would offer 240 pop-up concerts on streets, squares or in parks, but also indoors – for example in remises. The exclusively domestic acts will be announced on July 1, who will perform when and which route the moving stage will take, but will remain a secret until shortly before the performance begins. This is to prevent too many people from gathering together, the organizers said. The security team for the event is supported by a Covid 19 advisory board chaired by internist Siegfried Meryn. On the final weekend, three big shows are waiting on the island on September 19 and 20: Saturday evening offers a concert experience “for all generations”, music from the genres pop and folk music will be performed on Sunday morning, in the evening local cabaret stars will perform. Counting cards for the shows are to be raffled over the summer.
