All iPhone 12 models support 5G. In the Netherlands we unfortunately have to do without the fastest variant. We will explain why.
Read on after the ad.
The iPhone 12 only has 5G fast in the US
Nevertheless, we are getting off poorly in the Netherlands. There are two forms of 5G. Sub-6GHz 5G works at a greater distance from cell towers and is therefore very suitable for rural areas. This variant is indeed faster than 4G, but not nearly as fast as mmWave. This second form of 5G requires a shorter distance from the cell tower and is particularly beneficial in cities. There are often many more masts there.
The Netherlands is not ready for fast 5G
You will miss little for the time being. 5G is still in its infancy in the Netherlands. Even if we did get iPhones with mmWave support here, you wouldn’t be able to use it. The Dutch 5G network currently only works with Sub-6GHz. The higher frequencies will be auctioned in 2022. Only then can providers offer really fast 5G.
Yet it is a shame that the new iPhones in the Netherlands do not have mmWave 5G. After all, many people spend more than two years with a new smartphone. With the iPhone 12 you are therefore only partially prepared for the future.
The iPhone 12 is finally here!
Apple announced the iPhone 12 during the October event. 5G was one of the spearheads during the presentation, as was the new A14 processor. In addition, the iPhones have a new flat-edged design that is centered between the iPad Pro and the iPhone 4.
