Shortly after the start of the Sars-CoV-2 pandemic, it became clear: Men have a higher risk of developing severe Covid-19 than women. In addition, men die more often from it. Although about the same number of women as men were infected, 50 to 70 percent of Covid-19 deaths have so far been male, depending on the country. Experts suspect the cause is a differently active immune system of the two sexes. Researchers at Yale University have now taken a closer look at the respective reactions to Sars-CoV-2 and not only provide an explanation of the phenomenon, but also ideas for gender-specific, better monitoring of the sick in the hospital.
