Why blinking eyes?

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Unconscious women flashes frequently at certain intervals. Although it occurs naturally as a response from the petals womenthere is a scientific explanation for why we do this.

Brenda Pagan-Duran, clinical spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and an ophthalmologist in New Jersey, says there are two main reasons that make your eyelids blink.

First, blinking cleans the eye of particles that enter the space of the eyeball. “If there’s a foreign body, blinking helps get rid of it,” she tells him Live science.

Secondly, blinking aims to lubricate the eyeball. he said the eyeball needs a smooth surface so that light can focus properly, so vision doesn’t become blurry.

According to him, blinking can release the tear film, which is mostly composed of water, oil, and mucus. Blinking keeps the surface of the eyeball smooth.

The natural blinking reaction is also meant to keep the eyes from drying out, which can be uncomfortable.

“When you have large areas of dryness in your eye, it can be very painful, because there are a lot of nerve endings in the cornea,” she said.

Tear film or the tear film also supplies oxygen to the eye. Blood vessels do not reach the cornea, but the tear film transfers oxygen directly to the cornea.

This layer also contains enzymes that can fight bacteria and help prevent eye infections. Blinking is also helpful in times when humans deal with emotional states.

When humans cry, their eyes blink more often to dry the tears. Blinking is a reflex. It happens involuntarily, but you can also make your eyes blink.

Pagan-Duran says the average person takes 400 milliseconds to blink. Most people blink between 10 and 20 times a minute.

However, according to research uploaded to the journal Pnas who have studied eye blinking, humans usually blink about 15 or 16 times a minute.

According to the titled article Momentary activation related to network flashing in default mode when viewing video, blinking is actively involved in the discharge process during cognitive acts “by momentarily activating the innate network mode while disabling the dorsal attention network”,

Also, there are some circumstances that make your eyelids blink more often. For example, blink more often if you have something in your eye. Some conditions, such as ingrown eyelashes, can make the eye feel like something is there, leading to more frequent blinking.

So, allergic conditions, red eyes, and other types of inflammation can also trigger the human eye reflex.

If there is damage to the facial nerve, which is responsible for closing the eyelids, a person may blink more slowly or less frequently.

Fatigue and some medications can cause the same effect, namely slow blinking.

When you’re focused on something like watching a movie, you may blink less often to strengthen your concentration. So when reading, people tend to blink at the end rather than in the middle of a sentence.
