A number of airlines flight already use non-reclining seats for economy passengers, such as British Airways and Finnair. Current chairs do not have buttons that prevent passengers from leaning lower.

Several things are being debated behind the disappearance of this chair. Even though this button is available, many passengers often take issue with it because it is annoying and makes it cramped for passengers behind them.

So it is often unavoidable that passengers have arguments regarding the etiquette of reclining their seats. This is considered to be able to affect disruption costs.

On the other hand, recliner seats mean additional costs for the airline. This is because the mechanism of how a recliner chair works is hidden under the seat bearing which consists of a shaft, cable and pneumatic tube.

Chairs like this clearly require maintenance costs because they are susceptible to damage either due to use or if the chair is not treated properly.

CNN also reported that the use of reclining seats affects flight weight costs. The heavier the chair, the more fuel is used to transport it.

Therefore, as time goes by, chairs appear that are still able to provide comfort without taking up a lot of space.

German seat maker Recaro is known for its creation of racing car seats. The company also created comfortable airplane seats that can recline and tilt.

The recline angle can be ordered according to the airline’s requirements. This is useful for providing comfort to passengers while meeting special layouts with a certain number of passengers.

“The main advantage is increased living space, because the passenger’s living space is not disturbed by the seat backs,” said Recaro CEO Mark Hiller, as reported by CNN.

The chair is made slim by thinning the seat back, creating a structure that does not obstruct the knees and increases shin clearance.

These slim seats are widely used by low-cost airlines. But now it is starting to be implemented in full-service airlines.
