Who has which position in the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf? We give an overview after the Berlin elections in 2023.

Berlin. Although the CDU emerged as the clear winner with 30.7 percent of the votes in the repeat election in February 2023, the green mayor remains Kirstin belly in office. She and her partner have three school-age children.


She was born in Stuttgart in 1980 but grew up in Berlin. The social scientist was already managing director of the Greens in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and research assistant in the Bundestag in the field of finance and in the House of Representatives in the field of legal policy.




As compensation, the CDU gets the important urban development department. Successor to Fabian Schmitz-Grethlein (SPD) is the construction politician and lawyer Christoph Brzezinski (CDU). After completing his legal training, he worked in various areas of politics and administration. According to his own statements, his legal work will be suspended during his political mandate.



The new deputy mayor is Detlef Wagner (CDU). Born in March 1968 in Berlin, he will retain his office as District Councilor for Youth and Health. He studied mathematics and then went to the Berlin police. There he completed his training with a diploma in administrative sciences. For a long time he lived with his wife, son and daughter in the heart of City West. From 2019 to 2021 he was already district councilor for the departments of social affairs and health.


District Councilor for Citizen Services and Social Affairs remains Arne Herz (CDU). He was born in Wilmersdorf in 1978, has lived in the district ever since and is single. He studied law at Humboldt University and later completed a master’s degree in business administration for lawyers at Kiel University of Applied Sciences.


District Councilor for Order, Environment, Roads and Green Spaces remains Oliver Schruoffeneger (Green). Born in Berlin in 1962, he has been a member of his party since 1978. The graduate political scientist was already a district councilor and head of the urban development, building and environment department from 2016 to 2021.


Heike Schmitt-Schmelz (SPD) remains district councilor for schools, sports, further education and culture. Whereby she has to hand over her office as Deputy Mayor to Detlef Wagner. She was born in 1979 and grew up in Charlottenburg and Wilmersdorf. She studied German and work studies. She joined the SPD in 2001 and has represented it in the district assembly since 2006.
