“WHO Warns of Fungal Diseases Posed as Serious Threats: Insights by Global Health Researcher”

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA- The World Organization Agency or WHO has warned that there are diseases that are not only caused by viruses or bacteria, but also fungi.

According to Global Health Security and Resilience Researcher Dicky Budiman, there are at least four diseases caused by fungi and can be a threat.

Pertama Cryptococcus neoformans.

“Infection due to this type of fungus is very serious. Because the death rate from Cryptococcus neoformans is 41-61 percent. The death rate is very high,” he told Tribunnews, Tuesday (11/4/2023).

Dicky said that this was a disease caused by a fungus that lives in the soil, including wood trees.

Generally, this fungal infection is due to inhalation.

If inhaled, it can affect the lungs and can infect the central nervous system to the blood.

Kedua, Candida Auris (C. auris).

“A fungus that has the potential to become an epidemic. In human history it has become an outbreak or extraordinary event (KLB) in several hospitals,” he explained again.

The risk of death is also quite high, namely between 29 percent -53 percent.

“The note from Candida Auris is that many are resistant to antifungal therapy. This means that it can cause high mortality,” explained Dicky.

Ketiga, smoked aspergillus.

This fungus is a serious concern what else if inhaled.
